An Irish Times "Book of the Year"

'In Fact' selected by The Irish Times as one of their books of 2021

The Irish Times published their annual 'Books of the Year' listing today and I was deeply honoured to see In Fact: An Optimist's Guide to Ireland at 100 included. The paper described it as "an uplifting approach to a history book" and "perfect for flicking through by the fire".

To be included in such a list was a very distant aspiration for me as I toiled over my laptop in the early mornings and late into the dark winter evenings for nearly three years. I am amazed, excited and thankful that it has come to pass.

The book was one of four history books that made the paper's list. The others were Fintan O’Toole's We Don’t Know Ourselves: A Personal History of Ireland, Frank McDonald's A Little History of the Future of Dublin, and John Breslin and Sarah-Anne Buckley's Old Ireland in Colour 2. What wonderful company.
